TANAGURA, Japan -- The University of Texas Men's Golf team shot its second-straight combined 295 to finish fourth at the Topy Cup in Tanagura, Japan on Thursday, Sept. 9. The Longhorns combined the two 295s with an opening-round 284 to finish their trip to Japan with a three-day total of 874 (+10). Junior Matthew Rosenfeld (Plano, Texas) carded a third-round 72 (even par), combined with two 69's, to finish tied for third at six-under-par in the individual results.
Junior Matthew Mills (London, England) had his best round of the tournament with a 71 (-2) and completed the tournament tied for 21st at five-over-par. Senior Shaun Goodwin (Spring, Texas) and junior Jeff Bell (Plano, Texas) each finished with a three-round total of 225 (+9), which left them tied for 38th. Sophomore Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England) suffered a disqualification in his final round, thus, not allowing him to contribute to the Longhorns overall score.
The Topy Cup was won by New Mexico with an 847 (-17) followed by Auburn who shot an 850 (-14). Spencer Levin of New Mexico took the medalist honor with a three day total of 205 (-11).
After returning from Japan, the Longhorns will have a week to prepare for the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic, which is being held from Friday, September 17 to Sunday, September 19 at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga.
