SEASON OPENER: Texas (No. 2 Golf World/Nike; No. 2 Golfweek) opens the 2012-13 season this week at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. 

WHERE: The Farm Golf Club (par 72, 7,012 yards) - Rocky Face, Ga.

WHEN:  Friday, Sept. 7 through Sunday, Sept. 9; Texas is paired alongside Alabama and Auburn beginning at 9:30 a.m. Central in nine-minute increments off the first tee. Second and third-round pairings will be determined following play on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

THE TOURNAMENT FIELD – 15 teams (Golf World/Nike Golf Preseason Poll [as of Aug. 29, 2012] / Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings [as of June 6]): No. 1/1 Alabama, No. 2/2 TEXAS, No. 6/5 Auburn, No. 7/8 Georgia Tech, No. 15/13 North Florida, No. 19/24 Georgia, No. 24/23 Clemson, No. RV/25 LSU, No. RV/32 Chattanooga, No. NR/45 Kennesaw State, No. RV/45 Tennessee, No. RV/54 South Carolina, No. NR/55 Middle Tennessee State, No. RV/60 Wake Forest, No. NR/83 North Carolina.

LAST SEASON: The Longhorns won seven tournament titles last season in addition to the program’s third NCAA Championship and first since 1972. The Longhorns held the No. 1 national ranking all but two weeks during the 2011-12 season and boasted two of the top three players in the country in Jordan Spieth (No. 2) and Dylan Frittelli (No. 3). Head coach John Fields was tabbed the NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year and Golfweek Coach of the Year, while Spieth and Frittelli earned first-team All-American honors and Julio Vegas was named to the second team.

Kramer Hickok (So. - Plano, Texas)
