Lopez qualifies for U.S. Amateur Championship
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas sophomore Lance Lopez shot rounds of 72 and 70 at The Tournament Players Course in The Woodlands, Texas to earn a qualifying berth Wednesday for the upcoming U.S. Amateur Championship. The U.S. Amateur Championship will be held Aug. 20-26 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif. Jhonattan Vegas and Farren Keenan, who completed their collegiate eligibility at UT last spring, will join Lopez (Missouri City, Texas) in the U.S. Amateur Championship. Additionally, Vegas and UT sophomore Charlie Holland are competing this week at the Western Amateur Championship, which is being contested at the par 70, 6,929-yard Point O' Woods Golf and Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich. Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela) has opened with rounds of 68 and 67, while Holland (Dallas, Texas) has carded rounds of 73 and 72. The entire tournament field has yet to complete the second round.
