Catching up with Kevin Schultz

Texas men's golfer Kevin Schultz, who just completed his sophomore year in Austin, is one of six UT golfers that hail from the Lone Star State. Schultz, a native of Richardson, Texas, is spending his summer at home and roaming the Jack Nicklaus-designed fairways of the Dallas Athletic Club.

In 2005-06, Schultz played in two events for Texas, including a fourth-place finish at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational (Sept. 19-20). Schultz carded a season-low 69 in the second round to go with scores of 75 and 73 in the first and final rounds, respectively. His four-over par 217 was also his best total of the year.

Schultz took a few minutes to answer a few questions for TexasSports.com about how his summer is going and what his focus has been while away from Austin.

Summer location: Richardson, Texas
Local club for the summer: Dallas Athletic Club
Swing coach: Chris Hudson
Three goals for the summer: Make my swing more consistent, qualify for the U.S. Amateur and just get better everyday.
Favorite club to hit on the range and why: Nine-iron. I like the way it looks when addressing the ball.
Least favorite club to hit on the range: Five-iron for no real reason. Just the one club I end up hitting last.
Something you learned this summer: That Seattle doesn't really get that cold in the winter.
If someone asked you what you miss about Texas and Austin, you would say...? I miss the city and just being on my own.
Something you want to get better at this summer: Making my swing more consistent
The movie you are going to definitely see this summer: Miami Vice
First thing you will do when you get back to Austin: Go play the golf courses
