Bortis earns honorable mention All-America honors
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- University of Texas senior Matt Bortis was selected Wednesday to the 2007 PING Honorable Mention All-America Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Bortis (Springfield, Mo.) played in 10 events this season for the Longhorns, including the NCAA Championships, where he tied for 31st place at three-over par. He finished the season with a 73.70 stroke average.
Bortis was a part of both Longhorn tournament victories last fall at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in October and the Aloha Purdue Collegiate over the Thanksgiving holiday. Bortis tied for fourth place at the Isleworth and tied for 34th place at the Aloha Purdue Collegiate.
Bortis is UT's first All-American since 2005, when Matt Rosenfeld also was tabbed a PING honorable mention All-American. He is one of 29 honorable mention selections to the PING All-America team.
