Men's Golf preview: NCAA West Regional Championship
WHAT: Coming off of a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship, Texas is set to compete at the 2008 NCAA West Regional Championship. WHEN: Thursday, May 15-Saturday, May 17; Texas will tee off in Thursday's opening round at 2:35 p.m. Central and in Friday's second round at 10:05 a.m. Central. WHERE: Gold Mountain Golf Club (The Olympic Course - par 72, 7,111 yards) - Bremerton, Wash. TEXAS STARTERS WHO: Texas will compete alongside 26 teams and six individuals at the NCAA West Regional Championship. The top-10 team finishers and the top two individual finishers not on the advancing teams will play in the NCAA Championships slated for May 28-31 in West Lafayette, Ind. Teams (seeded in the following order): Individuals LAST YEAR AT THE NCAA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: Texas took ninth place at the 2007 NCAA Central Regional Championship in Sugar Grove, Ill., to reach the 2007 NCAA Golf Championship in Williamsburg, Va. The Horns shot a 52-over 916 to earn one of 10 berths available for the NCAA Championship. LAST TIME OUT: Texas placed second at the Big 12 Championship played April 25-27 at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. The Longhorns finished at nine-over par with 1,161 strokes in the 72-hole event. Sophomore Charlie Holland led the Horns by taking sixth with a one-over 289.
