AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior Matt Rosenfeld, a member of the No. 16 ranked Texas men's golf team, was named male collegiate Player of the Week by Golfweek for the week of May 8 after earning medalist honors at the 2006 Big 12 Championships.
The Plano, Texas native, finished at even-par 210 at Southern Hills Golf Club in Tulsa, Okla., to capture the Big 12 Conference Championship. The win was his first victory since he was a sophomore when he won the Cleveland Golf Classic.
The 2000 U.S. Junior champion shot his three best rounds of the season, 71, 70 and 69, on the par 70 course. For the year, Rosenfeld is averaging 76.7 per round after playing 18 rounds in six tournaments.
The Longhorns as a team finished second at the championships with a score of 22-over par after rounds of 285, 287 and 290. Oklahoma finished first with a score of 18-over par and No. 9 Texas A&M finished third at 26-over par.
Rosenfeld and UT will return to the course at the NCAA Regionals on May 18-20. Bids will be announced today, May 8. Regionals are hosted at three sites: Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.; the Sand Ridge Golf Club in Cleveland, Ohio; and the Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
