Men's Golf preview: U.S. Intercollegiate

UP NEXT: Texas (#18 GCAA) heads to Stanford for the U.S. Intercollegiate.

WHEN: Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19; the 17-team field will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.  Texas will tee off on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Central.

WHERE:  Stanford University Golf Course (par 70, 6,727 yards) – Palo Alto, Calif.

WHO:  Joining Texas and tournament host Stanford will be Arizona State, Chico State, Northwestern, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Santa Clara, St. Andrew’s University (Scotland), Washington State, California, UC-Davis, UC-Irvine, UCLA, Oregon, USC and Washington.

TEXAS LINEUP:  Freshman Dylan Frittelli, sophomore Bobby Hudson, junior Lance Lopez, sophomore Donald Constable and junior Charlie Holland comprise UT’s starting five this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT: Texas placed fourth at the 43rd annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate hosted by UT last month (March 30-31) at The University of Texas Golf Club. 

HOT START FOR HORNS: Texas opened the season by tying LSU for the team title at the 12-team Gopher Invitational. Holland tied for second at one-under par to land his sixth top-10 finish as a Longhorn, and Constable tied for eighth at three-over par. The Horns went on to take fifth at the Olympia Fields Invitational before scoring its second tournament victory of the season when it captured the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate on Nov. 12 in Kahuku, Hawaii. 


 

 

Freshman Dylan Frittelli tied for medalist honors (12-under par) on March 1 at the 15-team Puerto Rico Classic to become the third current Longhorn to win a college tournament.  Texas placed fourth at 11-under for the tournament.

WHO RETURNS: Texas returns three starters from the 2008 squad that placed 19th at the NCAA Championships and took second at the Big 12 Championships. Junior Charlie Holland returns after earning GCAA third-team All-America honors last season, during which he took medalist honors at the Fresno State Lexus Classic.

UT also returns sophomore Bobby Hudson, who set a course record with a 65 at The University of Texas Golf Club last April en route to medalist honors at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate. Junior Lance Lopez also returns after playing in the last two NCAA Championships for the Longhorns. Sophomore Donald Constable played in four events last season and has earned a start in all eight tournaments this season.

TEXAS TO HOST NCAA MEN’S GOLF REGIONAL
The University of Texas and the UT men’s golf program will host one of six NCAA men’s golf regionals from May 14-16 at The University of Texas Golf Club to decide the field for the NCAA Championships set for May 27-30 in Toledo, Ohio. 

The NCAA will announce the fields for the six regionals on May 4.
