Men's Golf tied for ninth after first round of National Invitational Tournament
TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Texas men's golf team is tied for ninth place at the National Invitational Tournament after the first round of action on Sunday, March 27. The Longhorns carded a two-under-par 286, as did Tulsa and Pepperdine, and are 10 strokes behind leader TCU. On the individual leaderboard, junior Matthew Rosenfeld (Plano, Texas) is tied for 13th at three-under-par, while TCU's J.J. Killeen leads with an opening-round 66 (-6). Both senior Shaun Goodwin (Spring, Texas) and freshman Kevin Schultz (Richardson, Texas) posted even-par 72s and are tied for 34th place, while Jhonattan Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela) shot a one-over-par 73 and is tied for 48th. Junior Jeff Bell (Plano, Texas) was the fifth Longhorn in action and he shot a five-over-par 77. Second-round action will begin at 8 a.m. (Central) and Texas will be grouped with players from Pepperdine and USC.
