Men's Golf finishes tied for eighth at Hall of Fame Invitational
HUMBLE, Texas -- The Texas men's golf team shot a 13-over-par 301 during the final round of the Hall of Fame Invitational (Redstone Golf Club: Par 72, 7,352 yards) on Sunday, March 20 to finish in a tie for eighth with Kentucky, South Carolina-Aiken and Oklahoma at 17-over-par (298-282-301=881). Senior Shaun Goodwin (Spring, Texas), who was playing as an individual, was the top Longhorn for the weekend and finished in a tie for 15th place at even par (76-68-72=216). Oklahoma State took the team championship by two strokes over UNLV with an 846 (-18), while UNLV's Ryan Moore earned medalist honors with a 10-under-par 206. "I think the most important thing for us to do right now is be patient," said Texas head coach John Fields. "We've done some good things this year, but right now we are facing some adversity. I believe in the guys on our team and I feel like the true measure of how good we can be will come over the next month and a half." Juniors Jeff Bell (Plano, Texas) and Matthew Rosenfeld (Plano, Texas) were the top Longhorns that counted in the team score. Bell shot a two-over-par 74 in the final round to tie for 23rd place at four-over-par (75-71-74=220), while Rosenfeld carded a six-over-par 78 on Sunday to also finish at four-over-par (72-70-78=220). Sophomore Jhonattan Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela) shot a five-over-par 77 in the final round and ended up in a tie for 29th place at five-over-par (75-70-77=221). Freshman Kevin Schultz (Richardson, Texas) fired an even-par 72 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 38th place at six-over-par (77-73-72=222). Junior Matthew Mills (London, England) finished in a tie for 57th place at 10-over-par (79-73-74=226), while freshman Jace Moore (Southlake, Texas) tied for 77th at 15-over-par (78-71-82=231). Sophomore Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England) tied for 84th place at 18-over-par and freshman Hector Diaz-Ceballos (Morelos, Mexico) tied for 95th place. Next up, the Longhorns will travel to Tucson, Ariz. to compete in the OMNI National Invitational Tournament from Sunday, March 27 to Tuesday, March 29.
