Men's Golf preview: GCAA Hall of Fame Invitational
Site: Redstone Golf Club, Humble, Texas Last Year's Tournament: The Texas men's golf team shot a 13-over-par 301 during the final round of the Hall of Fame Invitational (Redstone Golf Club:) on March 20 to finish in a tie for eighth with Kentucky, South Carolina-Aiken and Oklahoma at 17-over-par (298-282-301=881). Senior Shaun Goodwin, who was playing as an individual, was the top Longhorn for the weekend and finished in a tie for 15th place at even par (76-68-72=216). Oklahoma State took the team championship by two strokes over UNLV with an 846 (-18), while UNLV's Ryan Moore earned medalist honors with a 10-under-par 206. Jeff Bell and Matthew Rosenfeld were the top Longhorns that counted in the team score. Bell shot a two-over-par 74 in the final round to tie for 23rd place at four-over-par (75-71-74=220), while Rosenfeld carded a six-over-par 78 on Sunday to also finish at four-over-par (72-70-78=220). Jhonattan Vegas shot a five-over-par 77 in the final round and ended up in a tie for 29th place at five-over-par (75-70-77=221). Kevin Schultz fired an even-par 72 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 38th place at six-over-par (77-73-72=222). Matthew Mills finished in a tie for 57th place at 10-over-par (79-73-74=226), while Jace Moore tied for 77th at 15-over-par (78-71-82=231). Farren Keenan tied for 84th place at 18-over-par and Hector Diaz-Ceballos tied for 95th place. Last Time Out: The University of Texas men's golf team finished 13th at the UNLV Invitational after totaling a final round of 15-over par 303 led by junior Farren Keenan's final round one-over par 73. The Longhorns finished the tournament with a combined score of 67-over par 931. Host UNLV won the tournament with a final score of 15-over par 879. Georgia was runner-up with a score of 25-over par 889 after being tied with UNLV for the first two rounds. Oklahoma State took third place with a final score of 35-over par 899. Keenan finished the tournament with a three-round score of 15-over par 231. He shot rounds of 77, 81 and a final round 73 to finish in a tied for 36th-place. Senior Matthew Mills shot a final round six-over par 78 to go with rounds of 74 and 80 to card a 16-over par score of 232 and finish in a tie for 44th. Sophomore Jace Moore finished in 69th-place after carding a total score of 22-over par 238, followed by freshman Randy Lowry in 72nd-place with a 24-over par 240 and junior Jhonattan Vegas in a tied for 74th with a total of 26-over par.
