Men's Golf lands solid finish at Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship
LAS VEGAS -- UT junior Jace Moore shot even par in the final round to lead Texas to the third-lowest round of the day Sunday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship at the par 72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. All five Longhorns either equaled or topped their second-round scores, as Texas shot its lowest round of the tournament with a six-over 294 to finish in 13th place at 40-over par. UCLA won the event at 10-over par while the Bruins' Lucas Lee took medalist honors at three-under par. "I'm really proud of our underclassmen," said UT coach John Fields. "(Jace) Moore, (Lance) Lopez, and (Charlie) Holland all played well and will create a bright future for us. We did not play our best this week, but the course prepared us well for the rest of the season." Moore (Southlake, Texas) rebounded from a tough second round to chip in an even-par 72 on day three to finish in a tie for 23rd place at six-over par. Freshman Lance Lopez (Missouri City, Texas) also rebounded well on day three, knocking in a one-over 73, highlighted by an eagle on the par-four, 440-yard seventh hole. Lopez finished in a tie for 34th place at 10-over par. Senior Jhonattan Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela) shaved three strokes off of his second round, carding a three-over 75 to finish the tournament in a tie for 42nd place. Senior Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England) equaled his second round in the third, finishing with a six-over 78 on the day to end the tournament in a tie for 56th place. Redshirt freshman Charlie Holland (Dallas, Texas) lowered his second-round score by five strokes on day three, shooting a two-over 74 to finish in a tie for 63rd place.
