Lopez leads Men's Golf in second round at Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship
LAS VEGAS -- UT freshman Lance Lopez shot a five-over 77 to lead the Longhorns in the second round Saturday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship at the par 72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. Texas ended the second round in 15th place with a 24-over 312 on the day. The Longhorns are shooting 34-over par for the tournament with 18 holes remaining.
Each player struggled on the back nine before rebounding with lower scores on the front nine holes. Lopez (Missouri City, Texas) shot a 41 on the back nine before rebounding with a 36 on the front nine to end the round at five-over par. He sits in a tie for 49th place alongside senior Jhonattan Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela), who shot a 41 on the back nine and a 37 on the front nine to end the round at six-over par.
Senior Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England) found consistency throughout the course, shooting a 39 on the back nine before carding a 39 on the front nine to end the round at six-over par. Keenan is tied for 56th place at 10-over par heading into the final round.
Redshirt freshman Charlie Holland (Dallas, Texas) shot a 41 on the back nine before totaling a 38 on the front nine, ending the day with a seven-over 79. Holland is in 76th place at 15-over par with 18 holes remaining. Georgia leads the tournament at eight-over par.
