Moore leads Men's Golf in opening round at Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship
LAS VEGAS -- UT junior Jace Moore, making his first tournament appearance since last September, shot a one-under 71 to lead No. 17 Texas in the opening round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship Friday at the par 72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. Texas sits in 13th place with a 10-over 298 after the opening round with 36 holes to play. Moore (Southlake, Texas) opened the first round with a 36 on the front nine before mixing in a couple of birdies to drop a stroke to 35 on the back nine, ending the day with the one-under 71. Senior Jhonattan Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela) ended the first round with a three-over 75 to end the first round in a tie for 42nd place. Freshman Lance Lopez (Missouri City, Texas) shot a four-over 76 to finish the first round in a tie for 53rd place. Senior Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England), like Lopez, finished with a four-over 76, and redshirt freshman Charlie Holland (Dallas, Texas) carded an eight-over 80 to end the first round in a tie for 77th place. UCLA leads the event at six-under par. Texas A&M's Martin Piller holds the first-round lead at five-under par. Texas tees off on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT.
