Men's Golf preview: Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters

UP NEXT: Texas (No. 2 Golfweek/Sagarin, No. 5 Golf World/Nike Golf men's coaches' poll) travels to Las Vegas for the prestigious Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. 

WHERE: Southern Highlands Golf Club (par 72, 7,510 yards)

WHEN: Friday, March 8 - Sunday, March 10

TEE TIMES: Play will begin each day at 10 a.m. Central off Nos. 1 and 10. Texas will play alongside host UNLV and Alabama in Friday’s first round beginning at 10:45 a.m. off the first tee. Second and third-round pairings will be based off team standings.

  • Junior walk-on was the 36-hole leader at Bayou City Collegiate Championship before finishing tied for sixth place

No. 5 – Kramer Hickok

  • Tied for 25th place at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship

LAST TIME OUT: The No. 2 Texas Men’s Golf (285-274-283=842, -22) team coasted to its second win of the season in a 21-stroke victory in the Bayou City Collegiate Championship at Redstone Golf Club. Freshman Brandon Stone (72-68-67=207) picked up his second medalist award, and senior Julio Vegas (69-69-72=210) and junior Toni Hakula (72-67-72=211) finished second and tied for third, respectively. Junior walk-on Brax McCarthy (67-69-77=213), the 36-hole leader, tied for sixth place overall while competing as an individual for the Longhorns.

 

LAST YEAR AT SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS COLLEGIATE MASTERS: Dylan Frittelli recorded his seventh top-10 finish of the season with a team-best tie for eighth place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. The 2012 Ben Hogan Award Watch List candidate carded a 54-hole total of 2-over-par 218 (71-72-75) at Southern Highlands and paced the Longhorns (292-292-307=891, +27) to a sixth-place finish.
