Men's Golf preview: Puerto Rico Classic
WHAT: Texas opens the 2007 spring season with its second consecutive tournament off of the U.S. mainland, the 2007 Puerto Rico Classic WHERE: The River Course at Rio Mar Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico; the course is a par 72, 6,945-yard layout. WHEN: The tournament field will play 18 holes each day from Sunday, Feb. 25 through Tuesday, Feb. 27; UT will tee off on Sunday at 6 a.m. Central. WHO: The tournament features host Purdue, Texas, Alabama, Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kent State, Michigan, Minnesota, N.C. State, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Virginia Tech. TEXAS STARTERS: UT coach John Fields will start seniors Matt Bortis, Farren Keenan and Matt Bortis, redshirt freshman Charlie Holland and freshman Lance Lopez, who leads the Longhorns with a 71.45 stroke average. Texas has won its last two events, capturing the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in October and the Aloha Purdue Collegiate over the Thanksgiving holiday in Hawaii.
