WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- Freshman Jace Moore (Southlake, Texas) fired a six-under-par 66 in the second round of the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate on Thursday, Feb. 10 to help fifth-ranked Texas climb into a tie for 12th place at 16-under-par. The Longhorns combined for a 15-under-par 273 on the day after a one-under-par 287 in the opening round left them in 19th place. Oklahoma State leads the tournament at 42-under-par, while the Cowboys' Tyler Leon sits atop the individual leaderboard at 14-under-par.
"We needed to come back with a solid round because of the start we had yesterday," said Texas head coach John Fields. "We aren't playing our best golf right now and the guys are frustrated, but we played much better today and we expect to do the same in the final round."
Texas' round of 273 was the fourth-best on the day, led by Moore's 66. He now stands in a tie for 31st place at five-under-par (73-66=139). Junior Jeff Bell (Plano, Texas) bounced back from a three-over-par 75 in the first round to shoot a five-under-par 67 on Thursday and is currently tied for 50th place at two-under-par (75-67=142).
Junior Matthew Rosenfeld (Plano, Texas) carded a three-under 69 and is now tied for 35th at four-under-par (71-69=140). Classmate Matthew Mills (London, England) followed up an even-par 72 in the first round with a one-under-par 71 on Thursday and is tied for 64th place. Senior Shaun Goodwin (Spring, Texas) shot a one-over-par 73 and sits in a tie for 72nd place at even par (71-73=144).
Freshman Kevin Schultz (Richardson, Texas), playing as an individual, continued to have a solid tournament with a two-under-par 70 and is tied for 31st place at five-under-par (69-70=139). Sophomore Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England) shot a three-over-par 75 and is tied for 95th at three-over-par (72-75=147).
