Men's Golf freshman Brandon Stone named to The Ben Hogan Watch List

FT. WORTH, Texas -- Texas Men’s Golf freshman Brandon Stone has been named to the 2013 The Ben Hogan Award Watch List as announced today by the selection committee. The most prestigious award in college men’s golf, The Ben Hogan Award is presented annually to the top men’s performer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the past 12-month period.
Stone led the Longhorns to a season-opening victory at the Carpet Capital Collegiate en route to earning medalist honors in his college debut. Tabbed the National Player of the Week by both Golfweek and Golfworld magazines following his victory, Stone went on to finish tied for 16th at the PING/Golfweek Preview and tied for 21st at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational during the fall campaign.
A member of South Africa's contingent at the 2012 World Amateur Team Championship, Stone leads the Longhorns with a stroke average of 70.89 and has recorded a team-best four rounds in the 60s.
Stone is currently the third-ranked collegiate player per the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. Additionally, Stone marks the second Texas freshman to be named to The Ben Hogan Award Watch List in as many years, following on the heels of Jordan Spieth.

A list of 10 semifinalists, which could include individuals not on the current list, will be unveiled on Thursday, April 18. On Wednesday, May 8, that group will be trimmed down to three finalists. The winner will be crowned at a black-tie banquet at Colonial Country Club on Monday, May 20, prior to the start of the PGA TOUR’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
