Mills and Bell tied for second at darkness-shortened PING/Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Seniors Matt Mills and Jeff Bell sit in a tie for second place with identical seven-under par scores through 34 out of 36 holes Monday at the PING/Arizona Intercollegiate held on the grounds of Arizona National in Tucson, Arizona.

The Longhorns are currently tied for sixth with Pepperdine with a score of four-under par. Host Arizona is in first place currently at 23-under par, followed by BYU at 19-under par, Arizona State is in third at 14-under par and Arizona's B team rounds out the top four at 11-under par.

Texas posted a first round score of 291, but as a team was unable to finish the last three holes due to darkness.

Mills shot a first round 71, but sits at seven-under par after 16 holes. He opened the second round on the third hole, starting par-bogey before recording his first eagle of the season and collecting six birdies in his next 10 holes and having to walk off the course. His season low is 70 and his career low is 66, set at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate in 2004.

Bell shot an opening round 69 and sits at five-under par with just two holes left to play. He totaled seven birdies in 16 holes played and two bogies. The 69 was a season-low for Bell and just two stokes shy of his career-low of 67 also carded at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate in 2004.

Junior Jhonattan Vegas sits in a tie for 56th place after a first-round score of 76 and is currently even through 16 holes in the second round. Sophomore Jace Moore is in a tie for 59th place with three holes remaining in his second round. He shot 75 for his first 18 holes and is two-over par after 15 holes. Senior Matt Rosenfeld is making is 2005-06 debut at the Arizona outing. He sits in 72nd place after an opening round of 79 and is one-over par after 16 holes into his second round.

UT will finish its second and final rounds of the tournament on Tuesday.
