No. 2 Men's Golf in second place after first-round action at Isleworth Collegiate Invitational

WINDERMERE, Fla. -- The No. 2 Texas Men’s Golf team began its title defense at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational with an even-par 288 to finish the day in second place at Windermere Country Club. All-Americans Jordan Spieth and Cody Gribble paced the Longhorns with rounds of 68 and 69, respectively, and are tied for second and fourth places on the individual leaderboard.
The Longhorns’ victory at last year’s tournament marked their third of eight total team victories throughout the season, including the NCAA Championship. Spieth is the defending medalist.
Spieth’s scorecard included five birdies (two, four, seven, 13 and 17) to just one bogey. Similarly, Gribble balanced a team-high six birdies (two, seven, nine, 10, 13, 17) with three bogeys (four, five, 15).
Top-ranked California (284) holds a four-stroke lead on the team leaderboard. Illinois is in third place at 3-over 291. The Bears’ Michael Kim leads the field at 5-under 67.
UT is set to begin Monday’s second round beginning at 8:40 a.m. Central on the first tee alongside Cal and Illinois.
