Sept. 21, 2008
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Texas junior Charlie Holland fired a two-under 68, good for the second-lowest round of the tournament, as the Longhorns placed fifth in the 15-team Olympia Fields Invitational at the Olympia Fields Country Club.
UT landed its second top-finish in as many outings, finishing with a 31-over 871 for the tournament, 19 strokes behind the host and tournament champion, Illinois. The Illini's Zach Barlow and Indiana's Alex Martin tied for medalist honors at one-under par.
"We will take some positives from this weekend, but we are a bit stung by the way we finished today," UT coach John Fields said. "Charlie Holland came back and led our team, and we needed that from him. The top-20 finishes from Holland and sophomore Donald Constable complemented their starts last week in Minnesota."
Holland opened the final round on fire with birdies at the first three holes. He headed into the turn with a 34 before producing an identical score on the back nine behind birdies at the 11th and 13th holes. Holland finished in a tie for 17th place with a six-over 216 to land his second top-20 finish in as many events this season.
Sophomore Donald Constable opened with a 38 on the front nine and played steady golf down the stretch to produce a 36 on the back nine. Constable joined Holland in a tie for 17th place with a six-over 216.
Sophomore Bobby Hudson opened with a 36 on the front nine and finished with a 39 on the back to end the final round with a five-over 75.Hudson placed 26th at nine-over for the tournament. Junior Lance Lopez matched his 73 from Saturday behind birdies at the first, fifth, seventh and 13th holes. Lopez tied for 45th overall at 15-over for the tournament.
Freshman Dylan Frittelli, like Lopez, matched his total from Saturday, as he turned in a five-over 75 to tie for 51st place with a 16-over 226.
