No. 1 Men's Golf wins seventh title at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The top-ranked Texas Men’s Golf team claimed a four-stroke victory at the Western Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon at Pasatiempo Golf Club for its seventh win of the season. Freshman Jordan Spieth (72-67-71=210, E) led the Longhorns on the individual leaderboard in a tie for fifth place to mark his sixth top-five finish since arriving on the Forty Acres. The Western Intercollegiate featured a six-player format with each team counting five individual scores each round. Texas shot a 5-over 355 and 1-under 349 Saturday’s first and second rounds before carding a 6-over 356 in Sunday’s final round. Stanford (353-360-351=1064) and UCLA (351-364-352=1067) finished in second and third places, respectively. UT was the only school in the 14-team field with all six players finishing among the top-25 Junior Julio Vegas (71-69-71) carded a 54-hole score of 1-over 211 and finished tied for seventh place. Senior Alex Moon (71-70-72) finished tied for 11th place at 3-over 213 and senior Dylan Frittelli (67-73-75) was two strokes back at 215 to tie for 14th. Junior Cody Gribble (74-73-71=218) and sophomore Toni Hakula (78-70-71=219) rounded out the Texas contingent in 22nd and 23rd places. In his final round, Gribble recorded Texas’ eighth eagle of the year on the par-4 fourth hole at Pasatiempo. Gribble and Spieth lead UT with two eagles apiece.
