LAS VEGAS -- After a lengthy rain delay and chilly temperatures that dipped into the mid 40s, the No. 2 Texas Men's Golf team finished the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters at 18-over-par 306.
Sophomore Kramer Hickok made the Longhorns' only eagle putt of the day on the ninth hole to make the turn at even after bogeys on Nos. 5 and 8. He was 2-over on the back and recorded UT's low first round of 74 to finish the day tied for 28th place.
Senior Julio Vegas and junior Toni Hakula each carded 77s to tie for 58th place, and junior Brax McCarthy and freshman Brandon Stone finished tied for 68th place at 6-over 78.
California (285, -3) holds a one-stroke lead over second-place Stanford (286). Alabama (289) is in third place, while UCLA (291) and New Mexico are tied for fourth.
The Longhorns will begin Saturday's second round at 11:12 a.m. Central off the 10th tee alongside host UNLV and Georgia.
