No. 10 Men's Golf holds second place after opening round of Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- Powered by a 5-under 67 from freshman Cody Gribble and a 3-under 69 from sophomore Dylan Frittelli, No. 10 Texas finished with an 11-under 277 in round one of the Puerto Rico Classic Sunday at the par 72, 6,902-yard Rio Mar Country Club. The Longhorns sit in second place after round one, just two shots back of top-ranked Oklahoma State. Clemson sits in fourth at 7-under par, and East Tennessee State is in fourth at 4-under par. Georgia Tech rounds out the top five at 3-under par. Individually, Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway sits atop the leaderboard at 7-under par, while Gribble is in second with his 5-under par on the day. Gribble (Dallas, Texas) shot a 32 on the front nine before finishing with a 35 on the back nine to end with his 67 in round one. Frittelli (Pretoria, South Africa), the defending individual champion at this event, made the turn with a 34 before carding a 35 on the back nine, as he finished in a tie for sixth place at 3-under. Junior Bobby Hudson (Memphis, Tenn.), fresh off of his victory earlier this month at the Mauna Lani Invitational, carded a 2-under 70 and sits in a tie for 14th place after round one. Seniors Charlie Holland (Dallas, Texas) and Lance Lopez (Missouri City, Texas) each stroked a 1-under 71 in round one, and the Longhorns’ duo is tied for 26th heading into Monday’s second round.
