Top-ranked Men's Golf in fourth place at Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- Senior Dylan Frittelli and sophomore Toni Hakula carded a pair of subpar opening rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic to guide the top-ranked Texas Men’s Golf team to fourth place Sunday afternoon. Frittelli is tied for sixth place at 2-under-par 70 and Hakula is tied for 17th place at 71 (-1).
As a team, the Longhorns (288, E) trail first-round leader Alabama (276) by 12 strokes with 36 holes remaining in their quest for a fifth-straight tournament title.
Frittelli began his day at the Rio Mar Country Club’s River Course with a birdie on his opening hole. He made par on his next 10 holes before bogeying 12 and immediately dropping back to 1-under with a subsequent birdie on 13. Frittelli capped off his day with a third birdie on the 15th hole.
Hakula’s scorecard was a bit more up-and-down with five birdies and four bogeys. Hakula birdied the fourth, eighth, 11th, 13th and 17th holes, but lost strokes on seven, nine, 18 and one. His round began on the second hole and his bogey on one was his 18th hole.
Second round play kicks off for all players tomorrow at 6 a.m. Central in a shotgun start.
