HOUSTON -- Mississippi knew it would have to stop the powerful UT ground attack to have a chance in the 1966 Bluebonnet Bowl.

The Rebels held the Longhorns in check and stayed within reach throughout the first half, but the legs of Chris Gilbert and Bill Bradley proved too much and Texas powered its way to a 19-0 victory.

The Horns’ punishing ground game rolled up 306 total yards, including a UT record 156 on 26 carries by Gilbert. Bradley added 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 20 carries.

His first score came seven minutes into the contest when he closed a seven-play, 89-yard drive with a 25-yard run to put Texas on top 7-0.

After Gilbert capped a 12-play, 68-yard drive with a one-yard plunge in the third quarter, Bradley wrapped up the scoring with 1:38 left in regulation with a four-yard scamper.
