Holiday Bowl diary: Colt McCoy -- Dec. 26
Hey Longhorns fans, Practice is over and looking back on it, the first day of practice in San Diego was a little more relaxed, just getting back into our game plan to the things we really focused on back home. It was a time of really seeing our teammates back on the field together, how we're going to play together, how we're going to have fun together. It was bringing us back in the same place and more of a fun time and having a reunion. As we got more into our position meetings and our team meetings, you could tell our focus has come back. We're definitely prepared and ready for Thursday night. From that point on, it was more of a business trip, more of a being-ready-to-play type of attitude. Even though our thoughts have been on business, the Holiday Bowl has done a great job with their entertainment. After practice on Monday, we got to go to the zoo, have a meal and see all of the animals, which was awesome. I was looking forward to that personally, and I know a lot of the guys were, but a couple of us got a great chance to get really close to some of the animals. Brian Orakpo, Ryan Palmer and I went to a media session where they brought out a porcupine, an owl and a meerkat, and we got to touch all three, which was a pretty unique experience. After that, we got the chance to attend Monday Night Football with the San Diego Chargers playing the Denver Broncos, which was great because there were three former Longhorns playing. Being able to see Selvin Young, Tim Crowder and Quentin Jammer play was really exciting to watch, plus just being in the atmosphere of seeing an NFL game live was great. When you think about how successful the last couple of senior classes have been in the NFL, it's a great feeling to know, 'I've suited up with those guys. I've played with those guys. I know who they are and they're out there representing not only themselves and their families, but our program.' It lets you know that we might be able to have that opportunity one day if we keep doing the things we're supposed to do and listening to our coaches. It was an awesome feeling and fun to watch. Yesterday, we went to Sea World, which was fun. I definitely enjoyed seeing the dolphins. I got to play catch with them, and some of them can go get the ball just as well as my receivers. It was a lot of fun and a great experience. After Sea World, we celebrated Christmas together with a team dinner. Cleve Bryant stunned me a little by having me come up and lead the Christmas carols, but I thought it was good. Everybody sang along and we had a good time. It was a great evening with everyone who is involved in making this program special. With our last practice done, the bowl is within sight. Our mentality right now is that we're focused. The coaches have prepared us and they've told us what it's going to take to win. We've watched a lot of film, we've practiced hard, we've done our N.O.S.'s and we're definitely going to be prepared to play, and be prepared to play up to our standard. I'm just excited to be out there, and we're all ready to go. Hope to see you at the game. Hook 'em,
