Acho named Player of the Week

Nov. 17, 2010

For the second time this year, senior DE Sam Acho has been named the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 13, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation has announced.

Against No. 12/11 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Acho recorded four tackles (one solo), one tackle for loss, four quarterback pressures and one fumble recovery. His three fumble recoveries this year are tied for the lead nationally, and his seven career fumble recoveries put him tied for fourth on UT's career list.

Acho led a Texas defense that held No. 12/11 Oklahoma State to 13 points below their season average. After 10 games, the Longhorns defense ranks seventh in the nation in total defense (293.8 ypg) and eighth in passing defense.

Acho has already been named a semifinalist for the 2010 Lott IMPACT Trophy, an award given by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation to the player who exhibits: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics and Tenacity. He was a Lott Trophy semifinalist in 2009.

This season, Acho has also been named to the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and has been chosen as a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete. He is a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, Lowe's Senior Class Award and ARA Sportsmanship Award and is a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award and Lombardi Award.

Acho has 52 tackles (32 solo), six sacks, 13 TFLs, 12 pressures, one PBU, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 2010.

An honorable mention All-Big 12 performer and Academic All-American last season, Acho has tallied 141 tackles (91 solo), 33 TFL, 20.5 sacks, eight PBU, seven forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries during his career. He has played in 48 career games while starting 24.
