Acho named Wuerffel Trophy finalist, Lott Trophy semifinalist
Nov. 11, 2011 AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Longhorns senior LB Emmanuel Acho has been named a finalist for the 2011 Wuerffel Trophy the All Sports Association, Inc. has announced today. The Wuerffel is presented to the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with outstanding academic and athletic achievement. Acho's brother Sam won the Wuerffel Trophy last year. In addition, Acho has been named a semifinalist for the 2011 Lott Trophy by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, awarded to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Sponsored by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation in Newport Beach, the Lott IMPACT Trophy is given to the player who exhibits: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. Acho's brother Sam was a Lott finalist in 2010.
Acho has played in 43 career games (21 starts) and has registered 220 tackles (126 solo), seven sacks, 32 TFL, two INT, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 10 PBD and 18 pressures. In 2011, he leads the Longhorns with 73 tackles (32 solo), and has two sacks, 10 TFL, three PBD and 10 quarterback pressures. A sport management major in the College of Education, Acho maintains a 3.42 GPA. A two-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection, Acho is a six-time member of the UT Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. Last year, Acho was honored with the Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholarship Award, which is a national award that recognizes minority student-athletes who are committed to both education and athletics.
