Acho earns multiple weekly honors

Senior DE Sam Acho has been named the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, and the FBS National Defensive Lineman Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards for games played the week of Oct. 30.  

Against Baylor on Saturday, Acho recorded 10 tackles (seven solo), one sack, three tackles for loss, two quarterback pressures, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. 

Acho led a Texas defense that held No. 25/24 Baylor to nine total yards rushing on 18 carries in the first half. The Bears entered the game ranked fifth in the nation in total offense (510.8 ypg) and were limited to 328 total yards, including 109 on the ground, 69 of which came on one play.

Acho has already been named a quarterfinalist for the 2010 Lott IMPACT Trophy, an award given by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation to the player who exhibits: Intergrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics and Tenacity. He was a Lott Trophy semifinalist in 2009.

This season, Acho has also been named to the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and has been chosen as a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete. He is a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, Lowe's Senior Class Award and ARA Sportsmanship Award and is a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award. 

Acho has 44 tackles (29 solo), six sacks, 12 TFLs, eight pressures, one PBU, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 2010.

An honorable mention All-Big 12 performer and Academic All-American last season, Acho has tallied 133 tackles (88 solo), 32 TFL, 20.5 sacks, eight PBU, seven forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries during his career. He has played in 46 career games while starting 22.
