HEAD COACH MACK BROWN On the score: I am never surprised by anything anymore. Look at the scores across the country. Anybody who acts surprised anymore is not following other teams. I am just happy to win and happy to be bowl-eligible. DE BRIAN ORAKPO On the win: It was a battle. Baylor came in the game pumped and excited to play on their home field and they made some great plays. The first half it was neck and neck. Second half going into it was still neck and neck and finally we started making some big plays on both sides of the ball. OT TONY HILLS On the game: It was a heck of a game. You have got to give a lot of credit to Baylor. They came out here and they played hard and they made some plays, but we were able to overcome that. On practice goals for this week: You always have to take a step forward. This was not a step back. A lot of time people look at records. They don't understand the heart and character of these Baylor players. That team that we just played out there has a lot of heart. BAYLOR HEAD COACH GUY MORRISS On Michael Machen: Well, I am not happy with three interceptions. I don't think any of us are. I think our kids really believe in him and that may be the biggest plus for the whole afternoon for Michael Machen. You could see our kids were supporting him, riding him and he got the whole team together before we went out and got everybody cranked up and fired up. To me, at this particular point, I am more happy about someone stepping up and leading this football team. I think that is why I am most excited about Michael Machen and his maturity and leadership that he showed today under pressure before the game, rallying people. We will have to look at the film and see the technical stuff. He probably deserves another start next week. LB JOE PAWELEK On what he took from the game: We're getting there. We definitely didn't play perfect, but it was definitely better than the past two or three performances that we've had. We need to step up and keep them from scoring as many points. If the offense is putting them on (the field), then we need to kick them off. If they're scoring on us, then the offense has to put more points up. It's a huge team effort, and we'll just have to work together and keep getting better. On Baylor’s improvement: They had that fake punt that kind of hurt us, but there is improvement from the team overall. We'll have to take that and just build on it. The feel of the game was different than the previous two or three. We came out strong, and we were playing well, but it's frustrating that you're leaving here with a 31-10 loss. We have to take the things that we did do well and build on them to try to keep on improving. The things that we can take from this game is that it's obvious that we can play with the big boys. There is that spurt of Baylor playing how we think, and we know, we should play. It's just a matter of stepping up and making those big plays. WR JUSTIN AKERS On dropped passes: It's a little frustrating, but I'm not going to get my head down on that because I drop balls too. Everybody drops balls and has bad games, but I'd really like to see those guys get the ball in open space. (Justin) Fenty had a few opportunities, and he made some, but he didn't make some, and that's just the way the game goes. You can't fault him because he's out there giving 100 percent, and that's all you can ask for. On Michael Machen's performance: He really stepped up to the plate. He's an older guy and he's been around, so he knows a lot about the game. He's a really good leader, and I feel like he's one of the better leaders on our team. Going into the game he told us that we can do this, we can pull this game out, and during halftime he said a few things to get us pumped up. He did a great job, especially considering that he'd only had one snap that wasn't even as a quarterback, but as a punter. He's a more experienced, older guy, and he's a little bit taller guy, so I think it's easier for him to look around and have better vision. QB MICHAEL MACHEN On what he told the team before the game: I'm not a quitter. I don't give up, and I think that might affect the team. I just said I was tired of losing, and that it's time to stop. Obviously that didn't happen, but I think it's my job as a quarterback to not only be a leader by example, but to also be a leader by what I say. I finally got an opportunity to do that. I haven't been in a situation where I could lead with my words because I haven't been in the game. On not traveling last week, but starting this week: It was a little bit different. Last week I didn't travel, and I just was glad to get the opportunity. I went and talked to coach Morriss on Monday about everything, and he was really positive, and it was a really good conversation. Every opportunity I get, every throw that I make, I know they're watching, so I've got to be on the top of my game. If I hadn't been doing that, then I wouldn't have played. SS BRANDON STIGGERS On the loss: All the games hurt. It doesn't matter if you lose by 100, or you lose by one. We really felt like we could've won this game tonight. Texas was a great team, and they played hard, but we just didn't make enough plays. On playing Texas: We just figured we've got to make plays. The plays are out there to be made; that's why we play football. You can't be scared of anybody you go up against, regardless of if it's the number one team in the nation, or number two. When you go out there, everybody's on the same field; everybody bleeds the same blood. The plays have got to me made. The coaches put us in the right position, we've got to make the plays. On what the team takes from the game: We're taking a lot. This was a big confidence boost for us. We came out here and we played hard until the end. We never gave up, we fought all the way through, and we know that we've got to bring the same thing again going into K-State next week.
