Lawrence named Groza Star of the Week

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas junior K Hunter Lawrence has been named as a Lou Groza National Collegiate Place Kicker Award Star of the Week, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission has announced.

Lawrence posted a career-high 13 points against No. 1 Oklahoma after making all three of his field-goal attempts (26, 28 and 33) and all four PATs in helping the Longhorns to a 45-35 win. Lawrence has been perfect this season in scoring 54 points. He is 33-of-33 on PATs and has hit all seven of his field-goal attempts, including 3-of-3 from at least 40 yards.

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award presented by the Fed Ex Orange bowl will be announced on the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards aired on ESPN on Thursday December 11th. The three finalists will be honored at the Lou Groza Awards Banquet at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on Tuesday December 9th.

The award, is named for National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame kicker Lou "the Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an "All Pro" offensive lineman, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
