Texas-OU travel advisory: Motorists using I-35 could encounter delays

AUSTIN, Texas -- Travelers heading towards Dallas this weekend for the Texas-Oklahoma game could encounter some delays on Interstate 35 from Temple to Hillsboro (southern Bell County to Hill County) due to various construction projects with narrowed travel lanes and shoulders through work zones. There are no mainlane closures, but travelers are advised of narrowed travel lanes/shoulders and concrete barriers along lane edges.

The affected areas on I-35 include:

  • Bell County (Exits 279 to 283 and 298 to 300)
  • McLennan County (Exits 328 to 330)
  • Hill County from FM 3267 to U.S. 77 and through the I-35 East/West Split (Exits 367 to 370).Exit 368A, the primary exit to Hillsboro Outlet mall is closed.Traffic must use Exit 367 to access this area or to exit to State Highway 22.

TxDOT is encouraging motorists to travel as safely as possible by making sure drivers, passengers and children are properly restrained in safety belts and booster seats.Motorists can also increase safety by refraining from drinking and driving; if necessary, appoint a designated driver.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation also advises traveling the following roadways could also cause some delays in travel to the Dallas area:

  • I-35 narrows south of Marietta in Love County.Both directions of I-35 are reduced to one lane between Marietta and the Texas state line (mile markers 0-12). All lanes will be open by noon Friday.
  • U.S. 69 narrows south of McAlester in Pittsburg County.
  • Southbound U.S. 69 is reduced to one lane between Indian Nation Turnpike and Airport Road.
