Ash honored for his play vs. OSU

Oct. 1, 2012

David Ash was honored for his play Saturday against Oklahoma State, which helped Texas post a thrilling 41-36 road win in its Big 12 opener.

After completing a career-high 30 of 37 pass attempts for 304 yards and four touchdowns, Ash was named an honorable mention choice for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Week. He is also one of eight candidates for the Manning Award Player of the Week.

West Virginia's Geno Smith, who completed 45 of 51 passes for 656 yards in Saturday's 70-63 win over Baylor, was named the O'Brien QB of the Week.

He is also one of the candidates for the Manning Weekly Award with voting closing at 11 a.m. CDT Thursday. Click here to view the candidates and vote through Facebook.

Ash was one of eight candidates for the Manning Award two weeks ago after he completed 19 of 23 passes for a career-high 326 yards in a 66-31 road win over Ole Miss.

He is eligible for the Davey O'Brien Award, as the nation's best quarterback, and fans may vote by clicking here.

Ash is the fourth quarterback in Texas history to throw for 300 or more yards in back-to-back games. He ranks third in the nation in completion percentage (78.0) and has thrown just one interception and 10 TD passes.

Saturday’s West Virginia game (6 p.m. CDT) will feature the two most efficient QBs in the nation. Smith is first (208.37 rating) and Ash is second (184.03).
