Foster named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week

Texas senior DB Brandon Foster was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for games played on Sept. 8, the conference office has announced. He received the honor with Marcus Herford of Kansas.

In the fourth quarter of the Longhorns’ 34-13 win over TCU, Foster provided the outside rush that forced punter Derek Wash to fumble, scooped up the fumble and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown. The score extended Texas’ lead to 27-10 with just over seven minutes left. For the game, Foster totaled eight tackles, including one on special teams on the opening kickoff.

Last week, in just the second start of his career against Arkansas State, Foster posted eight tackles and two PBU. For his career, he has posted 51 tackles, two TFL, five PBU, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two TDs. His previous TD was a blocked punt recovery against Colorado in the 2005 Big 12 Championship Game.

This marks the first conference honor of Foster’s career and the first for Texas this season.
