Tracking the Longhorns: Sept. 4
RB Jamaal Charles On what TCU has: They have great people on defense. They have seven returning starters on defense. They always win 10 games and they're always in a bowl game. I know they're going to come up here prepared for us. They're going to look at the game like it's a bowl game and they're going to be ready. On hearing about the TCU fans' chants about wanting Texas: Everybody that we play is ready for us. I think they're going to come up here and try to beat us just like any other team. They're going to be really prepared for us so we have to show up. On the win Saturday: It was a win, but we always try to get past the first round with a win. Now, we just have to improve step by step and come out there with a higher intensity because they're going to be ready to try and beat us. We didn't play Arkansas State that well, so they're going to try to come in here and beat us. LB Robert Killebrew On TCU: TCU is a great team. They shut out a Big 12 team earlier this week. They have beaten quite a few Big 12 teams and I think they could be in the Big 12. They have beaten Oklahoma and Baylor a couple times. On the atmosphere on Saturday against TCU: The atmosphere is going to be hyped. I think a lot of that has to do with the media. I think that at Texas we could play anyone and just enjoy playing the game. I think now, and because of how good TCU really is and how great of a team they have, the atmosphere is going to be extremely high. On the TCU offense: They have a lot of explosive players on that side of the ball. They have a good quarterback that is completing balls down the field and they have a great running back. Their offensive line is big and nasty and we're just looking forward to getting in there and playing a good team. They are a really good team. On playing TCU today as opposed to when they were in the SWC together: I don't think it really matters because they're from Texas and anytime that anyone plays another team from Texas there is an in-state rivalry. On moving from No. 4 to No. 7 in the rankings: The only thing that matters is at the end of the season. The rankings at the end of the season matter. C Dallas Griffin On if the mistakes were because of having three new starters: I think personally, every year the offensive line is new. It doesn't matter how many new guys you have, because it's not about the individuals when it comes to the offensive line, it's getting used to the particular guys on your left and right. There's a weird kind of communication that's not verbal, it's not really spoken or anything, it's just getting used to the guy next to you. It takes some time, but we've made huge leaps in camp, and from last week we saw plays that we can improve on. It's just getting used to one another and we're definitely looking forward on getting better over the week. On Frank Okam: I think he's doing a heck of a job. If anyone is hard to block, I think our defensive tackles are the guys. You think you're going to get a break when you don't have Frank, but then you've got [Derek] Lokey and he's just terror. You can't get under the guy, and if you think you're going to be stronger than him, you're wrong because he's an absolute beast in the weight room. Even behind those guys, Thomas Marshall, Roy Miller and Ben Alexander and the freshmen coming in, we have an all-star cast. It makes our job as an offensive line a lot easier, because we don't have a day off on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Every day is hard for us. WR Quan Cosby On what the team is feeling about TCU: We feel good. We expect them to back it up and they are a good team that wins a lot of games every year. They can do that and they had a really good win last weekend and we expect them to come in confident and ready to give it all they have. On TCU's program over the last few years: In general, over the last six years they have done really well every year. They are a big-time team and we're going to respect them that way, like we do every week, and go in and fight and try to come out with a win. On moving from No. 4 to No. 7 in the AP poll: I didn't even know that happened. But, every week is motivation. I guess you pay attention a little bit to the rankings, but for the most part, you take care of things on your end and don't worry about the things you can't control. DT Roy Miller On TCU's mentality for this weekend: You know they are going to be fired up when they come here, and we expect it. They are a great team and they're going to have confidence. We're looking forward to it because we like the competition and we see ourselves the same way. We're fired up and we're ready to compete too. On if there is motivation due to dropping down in the polls: Our main thing is focusing back on ourselves and that's all we can worry about. We need to go back to our basics and we need to have more fun out there. We just have to play together more and work on a couple of things and we'll be fine.
