Player press conference quotes: August 29

Will Allen
On the team's chemistry:
I do think the chemistry is better. We had a better turnout throughout the summer for volunteer workouts. We didn't have as many academic issues. That allowed for more guys coming to summer workouts. We had a better turnout not only during the first few weeks of the summer but the whole summer. I think when you sweat and grind it out with guys throughout the summer it helps us be a step ahead for camp.

On how the offensive line is doing as a whole: It takes a while to gel as an offensive line in general. The last couple of years we have come in and it would take three or four weeks before we were effectively running the ball, effectively picking up blitzes because you have so many different calls. It usually takes weeks to pick up, but the first day of camp (this year) I felt like we were two or three weeks along with the offensive line.

On Lyle Sendlein being different from Jason Glynn at the center position: Lyle brings a lot to the table as far as his quickness and size. Jason was playing last year at 260 or 265 and had incredible feet. Lyle brings probably the same feet, but he weighs 310. He has done a great job stepping up and being a leader as a junior.

On wearing the throwback uniforms for the opening game against Louisiana-Lafayette: That is a pretty big honor. When you sit back and think about the past and the history that comes along with Texas football and us just being able to put on the uniform that those guys wore in the past. Those are the guys who started this tradition and honor. (The uniforms) are pretty sweet. Every couple of practices they let us put the cleats on and break them in. It is a neat deal.

Brian Robison
On the opening game:
We have been through almost three weeks of training camp now. We were discussing the other day that we have taken over 900 snaps against our offense. That is a lot of snaps. We are just glad we are going to get to play against somebody else.

On the offensive line: They have a lot more cohesiveness. All of their feet have gotten quicker. I'll be honest with you. Comparing them to some of the teams last year, they are probably the best offensive line I have faced day in and day out.

On Oscar Giles: Oscar Giles is a tremendous coach. He is probably one the best defensive coaches I have worked with along with Dick Tomey. He has done a tremendous job. He has put it in our heads that we have to put pressure on the quarterback in order to be successful. We have been doing an amazing job of getting pressure in practice. He just keeps getting it in our heads that it is never good enough and that you have to keep working.

On Henry Melton: I have hit him a couple of times. He is a big load. I would have to say I have never hit anyone like that before, but how many 275-pound running backs do you go against everyday?

Selvin Young
On being the starting running back entering the season:
I don't know one word to sum up how I feel about that. It is a long time coming. I have been waiting for this moment since I walked on The University of Texas campus. To have the day finally come where I can walk out and be the starting tailback for The University of Texas, it is unexplainable.

On what he is looking forward to: I am looking forward to the first hand-off from Vince (Young). That's the number one thing I am looking forward to.

On being injured and sitting on the sideline during last season: Sitting and watching was probably the most difficult thing I have ever had to go through in my life. Being away from the game that I always used as an outlet. Not being able to have that was a burden, but I had Vince (Young) as a roommate. I was able to come home and share his feelings and his emotions each and every game as the season went on all the way up until the Rose Bowl. It was like I was there. He took me under his wing. He would bring me food and take me places. I was on one leg and he took care of me like a brother. I never really lost a game in that sense. I was always there. To be back it is like another season, and I never left.

On Vince Young's development from last season: He has matured and grown. After the Rose Bowl victory most people would be like, I just ran through an entire team and won MVP, but he just sat there looking at the trophy in disbelief. He had a spectacular game like that and yet he was so humble about it. He has not let anything get to his head from that point until now. He has just been the exact same person. Him having that type of attitude has just driven him even more.

Aaron Harris
On the way Selvin Young has played in the preseason:
I think he has done very well. He is taking his time. He is a little bit more mature in his running style. He is seeing holes better and doing things that are going to help our team this season.

On Henry Melton: He is a pretty big load. The other team is going to have to deal with him during the season, not us. He is a pretty good running back. He's young. There are things he has to work on just like everybody else. I believe he will be great this season.

Tim Crowder
On the challenges the defense faces this week:
It is going to be a great challenge for us. It is the opener so everyone is going to wonder about how the defense will do. I can't wait to go out there and show them.

On what he is anxious to see in the defense: I am anxious to see the whole defensive process. The plays we run, and how we execute them. How we run to ball and hit and force turnovers. I am anxious to see the pass rush and how everything has improved.

On what Oscar Giles brings to the team: He is a young, fiery guy. He gets us fired up. It is great that he played here. He knows exactly what we go through. He brings a lot to the table because he has played the position before.
