Summer Session: Colt McCoy
July 14, 2009
On this summer: This summer has been really good, really efficient. Our team has worked really hard. Everybody is showing up. Our attendance is really good. We have a goal and that’s to win all our games. We’re really working towards that right now. On how far they’ve come since last season: It makes you want to work that much harder. You know how hard you worked to get to where we were last year, but at the same time, everyone is trying to take it to the next level, to raise the bar just a little bit higher. I think individually and as a team, we’re doing that. On his senior season: I’m just excited about my senior season. Not very many guys get to play for four years anywhere. I’ve been blessed and lucky enough to play at a place like Texas with all the tradition and excellence that this program has produced. I’m excited about this fourth year. I’m excited about how hard we’re working. I set personal goals, but my main focus is to win every game. That’s why I came back. I feel like we have an opportunity to be really good. I know right now we’re doing what we can. Obviously, we haven’t played a game yet, but we’re working to be the best that we can be. On working in the community: I definitely have been blessed to be able to play and have my name out there and my face out there. So, anytime I can give back to kids, that is kind of my main focus, to be an example, to be a role model for kids and to be somebody that they can look up to. I strive to be the best that I can be. On closing in on the start of fall camp: It’s less than a month. We had seven-on-seven last night and we kind of looked around said, ‘Hey, it’s almost here. What are you doing right now to make sure that you’re going to be in shape, you’re going to be focused, you’re going to be the best you can be come August 8?” It’s going to be here quick.
On participating in the Manning Passing Academy: The Manning Camp was fun. Anytime you can go spend a weekend with Archie, Peyton and Eli, obviously, that’s pretty special. I had a blast. I got to work out with them, throw the ball with them. They definitely put us to work. There was a bunch of kids running through there we were coaching. But, at the same time, I learned a lot of stuff. I learned different techniques. I learned a lot about the mental side of the game, just kind of the things they do. It was pretty special. On Archie Manning’s praise of him: It means a lot. Archie was a tremendous quarterback and he raised two stud quarterbacks, so they’ve got quarterback written all over their family. For him to say that means a lot. On who keeps him grounded: Everywhere I go, whether it’s my teammates, coach Davis or coach Brown, my parents, they bring me back down to Earth quick. My two brothers could care less about what’s going on up here. I definitely have a good group around me that brings me back down quick. They’re not going to let me stay too high on my horse and that’s good. I think we all need somebody like that every now and then. On what he does to stay motivated during the offseason: I think games are won by what you do right now. I think the season is determined by what you’re doing right now, what you’re doing to prepare. Preparation is the key to any type of success. Right now, are we working out as hard as we can? Are we running as hard as we can? Are we in the best shape that we can be to get ready for the season? We’re watching a lot of film, critiquing ourselves. I spend a lot of time seeing what I can do better. On dealing with all the attention: I try not to focus on that too much honestly. I just try to focus on being the best I can be on Saturdays and being the best example I can be on my team, the best leader I can be and when you’re focused on that, you almost don’t focus on anything outside of that, and I think that’s good. That’s the mentality that I take. |
