July 10, 2012
Texas Longhorns senior tight end D.J. Grant has been added to the 2012 CFPA Offensive Awards Watch List, the College Football Performance Awards has announced. Grant has been added to the list for those eligible to win the Tight End Trophy. Grant is a fifth-year senior who has played in 13 career games with four starts and has caught 16 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns in his career. After redshirting in 2008, Grant missed the 2009 and 2010 seasons with a knee injury. His three receiving TDs against UCLA in 2011 tied for the team lead for the season and also tied the UT single-game mark for most TD receptions by a TE. Against the Bruins, Grant finished with six receptions and 77 yards, including a 45-yard TD reception in the third quarter for his first career TD catch to earn CFPA National Tight End Performer of the Week and the team's Offensive Player of the Week award. He caught three passes for 37 yards in the Holiday Bowl against California. Grant is a member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll (Spring 2010). On June 26, Texas Longhorns senior RB D.J. Monroe and sophomore CB Quandre Diggs were added to the 2012 CFPA Special Teams Watch List, and on July 3, Texas Longhorns senior DE Alex Okafor, junior DE Jackson Jeffcoat and junior CB Carrington Byndom were added to the 2012 CFPA Defensive Awards Watch List. A Texas Longhorns football player has won a national CFPA award each of the last three seasons. Running back Foswhitt Whittaker was named the 2011 CFPA Kickoff Returner Trophy winner for his stellar senior season where he returned two kickoffs for 100-yard touchdowns in consecutive games. In 2010, DE Sam Acho was selected as the CFPA Defensive Lineman Trophy winner, and Earl Thomas was selected as the CFPA Defensive Back Trophy winner in 2009.
