Ross to host charity celebrity weekend

June 11, 2009

Former Longhorn All-American, Thorpe Award winner and New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross will host the "Bring It Home" Charity Celebrity Weekend June 18-20 in San Antonio. The weekend includes a Cheer Camp, Football Camp and Community Fair, Meet and Greet Celebrity Dinner and a Celebrity Basketball Game. The camps are $75 per camper, the basketball game is $10 for online pre-sale and $15 for walk-up, the Celebrity Dinner is $50 and the Community Fair is free. The events will benefit four charities that support local youth: Davis Scott YMCA, Sanya Richards Fast Track Program, San Antonio Kids Exchange and the Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio.

Fans can register for any of the events in advance by going to www.btlsports.com or calling 210-995-7800. Media interested in covering any of the events should call Larry Williams of Between The Line Sports at 210-995-7800.

"I'm really excited about all of the events and getting out to help in the community," Ross said. "San Antonio is where it all started for me and it's so close to Austin, where all of the great Longhorn fans are, that I thought it was the perfect location. I hope everyone will come out, hang out with a bunch of former Longhorns and NFL players and help raise money for some good causes. It's going to be a weekend full of fun."

The tentative list of players expected to take part in the event include former Longhorns CB Tarell Brown (San Francisco 49ers), RB Jamaal Charles (Kansas City Chiefs), LB Derrick Johnson (Kansas City Chiefs), DE Brian Orakpo (Washington Redskins), OG Kasey Studdard (Houston Texans), OT Jonathan Scott (Buffalo Bills) and RB Selvin Young, as well as NFL players CB Ronald Bartell (St. Louis Rams), RB Ahmad Bradshaw (New York Giants), S Quincy Butler (St. Louis Rams), DE Robert Henderson (New York Giants), S Michael Johnson (New York Giants) and RB Danny Ware (New York Giants).

Same-day registration for the cheer camp, which costs $75 and includes a t-shirt, camper bags, and lunch, will take place from 8-9 a.m.

On Friday, June 19th, former Longhorns, current NFL players and other nationally recognized celebrities will take the field for a football camp at the Spring Sports Complex (SAISD, 1002 Edwards, San Antonio, TX 78204, next door to Burbank High School).
