Hey Longhorns fans and Happy Mother's Day,
I think it's hard to put what my mom means to me into words. She is so important. After God, she's the most important person to me. I would do anything for my mom, no matter what it is. She's gotten me to where I am today, keeping me in prayer, always making sure I'm doing the right things and giving me advice. Anytime I need advice, I go to her, making sure it's the right thing to do before I make any decisions. She's my heart and soul. I couldn't live without her.
Some of the best lessons my mom ever taught me have been developing friendships and never burning bridges, because you never know who you're going to need in the end. Another lesson is to always keep God first in everything I do and try to remember that He's the reason I'm here. Then, to stay humble and be a people person -- my mom's always doing things to keep me humble like having me wash the dishes and take out the trash when I come home. It's all part of staying close in our family.
She teaches me lessons almost every day, but one moment that sticks out to me is one day we were going to McDonald's, and she said she heard about a pro athlete who was complaining that he couldn't even go to McDonald's with his family without people coming up to him and asking him for autographs. She said, "Don’t you ever get too good to where you can't sign an autograph for somebody if they ask you, no matter where you are. Always be a people person. You chose to be in the position you're in, and it just comes with the territory, so be ready to do it wherever you go. Don't be mad because you don’t have enough time or something, it's the position you wanted to be in." That has always stuck out to me.
For my mother and every mother out there, I would just like thank you for raising your children and being there for your kids. Even though sometimes they might not show it, it means a lot. I especially say that for all the mothers of our team and staff. We're all in the positions we're in because of you. To my mother I'd like to say I'm grateful for everything you've done for me and I appreciate the love you give me and I love you back. You're my world.
Happy Mother's Day,
Lamarr
