Brown to join NFL Network as guest analyst for Saturday draft coverage

April 14, 2010

Texas head coach Mack Brown will serve as a guest analyst on NFL Network's draft coverage starting at 8 a.m. Central on Saturday, April 24, from Radio City Music Hall. Brown will join the team of Rich Eisen, Mike Mayock, Charles Davis, Corey Chavous and Jason La Canfora on the Total Access Pre-Draft Presented by Lexus and the 2010 NFL Draft Presented by Verizon to offer his expertise on the prospects selected in rounds 4-7.

"Mack Brown is one of the most successful college coaches of all-time and a dynamic personality," said NFL Network executive producer Eric Weinberger. "He will add a unique perspective on the former college stars as they make the jump to the NFL."

Entering his 13th season at UT, Brown is the NCAA's winningest coach of the last 14 years (including final two seasons at North Carolina) with a record of 148-30, including a 13-1 mark, a Big 12 Championship and a berth in the BCS National Championship Game last year.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to be a part of the NFL Network's Draft coverage next weekend,” Brown said. “It's an honor to be asked and certainly a tribute to all of the success our guys have had in the NFL and the number of talented draft prospects we have this year. Mike (Mayock) and Charles (Davis) are good friends and I look forward to getting to know Rich (Eisen), Corey (Chavous) and Jason (La Canfora). I love watching their work and hope they know they'll have to carry me (laugh) because this is a new and different challenge for me. I'm looking forward to it."

Under Brown, Texas has produced six Top 5 picks and eight Top 10 picks to lead all NCAA football programs. The Longhorns have had two first-round selections in six of the last nine drafts and at least one first-rounder in eight of Brown’s 11 drafts at UT. Overall, the Horns have had 41 players drafted during Brown’s tenure and 35 are still active in the league (85.4%). At the end of the 2009 season, Texas’s 42 players in the NFL were more than any other school.

Dating back to 1986, Brown has had a player selected in 24 straight NFL Drafts and 92 players overall have been drafted. Over the last 13 years, Brown has produced 18 (14 Texas/four North Carolina) first-round draft picks, 55 total draft picks and 42 players that were selected in the first four rounds.
