Michael Huff's Celebrity Benefit Basketball Game brings Longhorn NFL stars together again
March 31, 2009
Former Longhorn safety Michael Huff has always been ready and willing to give back. The Thorpe Award winner, consensus first-team All-American and defensive star of Texas' 2005 National Championship, regularly volunteered time in the Longhorns' community service program during his days in Austin and now has taken that effort to another level. The seventh pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders is hosting the Second Annual Michael Huff NFL Celebrity Benefit Basketball Game this Saturday at the Austin Convention Center. The game tips off at 12:30 p.m. and proceeds will benefit the Dell Children's Medical Center and the Women Called Moses Center. Tickets for the game are $20. "Everyone in Austin is always so great to me that I really enjoy the opportunity to get all of the guys together and do something to give back," Huff said. "We had a great time getting together, playing some basketball and entertaining all of the fans last year and are looking forward to it again this year." The weekend will kickoff with an autograph-signing event with NFL stars on Friday at the Tech Ridge Center H-E-B (500 Canyon Ridge) at I-35 and Parmer Lane. That session will run from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Tickets to the game will be available at the autograph event, as well as at the Convention Center on Saturday. More than 30 NFL players were on hand for the inaugural event in 2008, including Longhorn stars Michael Griffin (Tennessee Titans), Derrick Johnson (Kansas City Chiefs), Shaun Rogers (Cleveland Browns), Bo Scaife (Titans), Jonathan Scott (Buffalo Bills), Kasey Studdard (Houston Texans), Roy Williams (Dallas Cowboys), Selvin Young (Denver Broncos) and Vince Young (Titans). Many of those players are scheduled to return along with a crop of first-year NFL participants.
