Sloan Thomas: In His Own Words
AUSTIN, Texas -- I feel great. It was a lot of work, a lot of hard work, just like it was for every other guy out here. There was a lot of praying, a whole lot of praying. Everybody said to go to California to train, go to Florida, go to New Orleans, go to Houston, but I went with myself and stayed in Texas and trained. I don't think that any one day can tell how an athlete plays on the football field, but this is what the scouts want to see. What we came to do is perform. No matter what happens on the football field, you have to perform here and you have to perform on the field. They both come together. I'm very, very happy just to have gotten through today healthy. My grandfather (Charles Boyd) died Sunday, and I give it all to him. I was running all in his love and my family's love, because I wouldn't do anything without my family. A lot of people ask how much pressure is in a situation like this. Every day you go out in front of people, in front of fans, in front of coaches. You have to come out every single day to play, no matter when it is. Pressure is something that I thrive on. If you can't play under pressure, you can't play football. We had 80,000 people here every week. In the NFL, they have even more with the people watching TV, you have Sunday, you have Monday Night Football. Pressure is what I thrive on. It's like it's a test. I've trained every single day for three months. I've given up everything that was going to tear my body down. When it came to today, it was a test, and all you have to do is go and take the test. Now we wait until the draft, and how I honestly feel is it doesn't matter where you're going to pick someone. You've got first round busts, you've got seventh round busts, you have free agents. I just want to play on a team and play football. No matter what, I love the game. That's what I want to do. That's what I came here to do. That's why I came here to perform. Put me on the field and let me play football, and money and things like that are going to happen. I've been under pressure, and I've been under many different things in my life. You can't let that bring you down. Honestly, it was my grandfather today that was helping me run. It was a great day. We've got many more and this was just another step.
