Shipley, Lawrence compete in College Football All-Star Challenge

Feb. 6, 2010

Former Texas WR Jordan Shipley and K Hunter Lawrence participated in the 2010 College Football All-Star Challenge in Miami with Shipley winning one of three receiver contests and Lawrence finishing second among kickers.

The contest was taped at Florida International University in Miami on Monday and it aired Friday on ESPN2. It will air again on Sunday at 3 p.m. Central on ESPN.

Shipley won the Hands Competition where the players had to catch eight passes at close range from a jugs machine followed by three passes from the quarterbacks while running through obstacles.

Shipley caught every pass during the competition during both the semifinals and finals en route to the win, which was based on time.

USC's Damian Williams also reached the finals among the group of receivers that included Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant and Cincinnati's Mardy Gilyard. There were two other receiver events in which Bryant won the Routes Competition, while Williams won the Obstacle Course.

Lawrence placed second in the Round The World Competition where each kicker had one minute to kick seven field goals.

The kicks included two each from 40 yards, 45 yards, 50 yards and one from 55. The first kick from each distance was worth one point and the second was worth two points with the final kick worth three.

Lawrence made five of the seven attempts overall, which was the most of any of the players, but missed the two-pointer from 45 yards and the final 55-yarder to finish with seven points.

Michigan State's Brett Swenson won on his final kick despite missing his first three, and was the only kicker to make the last kick to finish with eight points. The competition also included USC's Jordan Congdon and Mississippi's Josh Shene.
