What has your schedule been like at the Senior Bowl this week?
In the mornings we eat breakfast, and then we have team meetings at about nine o’clock. Then the North [team] will start practing right after meetings. The South [team] will get a two hour break that includes lunch. And then we’ll [South team] go to practice, and we practice for an hour and a half. It’s a pretty intense practice. They have a lot of NFL scouts and coaches out there, and after practice we get to the hotel at about three [p.m.] And anywhere from about three until like eleven, we interview with the different teams and talk with the GMs and draw up plays on the chalkboard.
What sort of feedback have you received from scouts and NFL personnel?
Things have been going well. They like the week of practice that I’ve been having and also have been pretty impressed with the knowledge that I have shown on the chalktalk and just being able to draw up plays and formations. And showing how we react in certain situations in the game or situations during the play.
Why did you decide to play in the Senior Bowl?
It’s just such a prestigious game. It’s one of the best all-star games for college players. Just to have the opportunity to go out and practice against some of the best players in the country, it’s something that I couldn’t pass up.
Did you get the feeling this week that this is the real start to your professional career?
You definitely get that feeling. You get that excitement built up, the pride knowing that you’re going play here with the best players in the country and just get the opportunity to meet NFL staff and coaches. And it’s all becoming a reality over the next few months.
Has it been an exciting time for you?
Oh, yes. It is very exciting, because like with anything, it’s just a new aspect of life.
Have you and the other Texas players spent any time together?
Well, actually, me and Emmanuel [Acho] are roommates, so that’s been great. And we see Keenan [Robinson] all the time. And all three of us will be on the field at the same time during the game.
What are your plans after this game heading into the NFL Draft?
Just working out. Getting ready for the combine. Making sure I’m in the best shape I could possibly be in and just enjoying life. That’s about it.
