Jan. 13, 2012

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Longhorns senior offensive lineman David Snow has accepted an invitation to play in the 87th East-West Shrine Game®, the organizers of the game have announced. The game will be held Jan. 21, 2012 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., kicking off at 3 p.m. CST and televised live on the NFL Network.

Snow will join fellow Longhorns S Blake Gideon and RB Cody Johnson in this year’s game.

Snow is a fourth-year lineman who appeared in all 52 of his career games with 32 starts (14 at center, five at right guard, 13 at left guard). He started all 13 games for the Longhorns at left guard this season and earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.

Hailing from Gilmer, Texas, Snow was the senior leader on the offensive line that helped the Texas offense to average 202.6 yards rushing and 392.5 yards of total offense per game in 2011. He earned the Bevo Beast Award in seven games against UCLA, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Texas Tech, Kansas State and Texas A&M. Snow contributed to a 441-yard rushing performance against Kansas as the offense finished with 590 total yards in the game, and he led the team to 439 rushing yards and 595 total yards against Texas Tech. He helped Texas amass 506 total offensive yards and put 34 points on the board in the season-opening win against Rice and blocked for an offense that racked up 557 yards, including 201 on the ground and 356 through the air at Baylor. Snow helped the offense amass 488 total yards and 49 points in a win at UCLA and served as a game captain at Iowa State as the offensive line paved the way for 400 yards of total offense in a 37-14 win. He also was a game captain against Missouri, Kansas State and Texas A&M.

Snow was a 2011 second-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and in 2009 earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors. He was also a two-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll (Fall 2009/Spring 2011).

The Longhorns have had a player represent the University of Texas in this annual all-star game every year since 1996. Past Longhorns participants include TE David Thomas (2006), DE Brian Robison (2007), LB Scott Derry (2008), DT Derek Lokey (2008), DT Frank Okam (2008), DT Roy Miller (2009), CB Ryan Palmer (2009), K Hunter Lawrence (2010), TE Greg Smith (2011) and OL Kyle Hix (2011).

Snow joins an elite list of football greats, such as John Elway, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, and 62 NFL Hall of Famers, who have played in the East-West Shrine Game along with 52 players currently on active NFL rosters.

"The East-West Shrine Game has always fielded players among college football's best," said East-West Shrine Game Executive Director Harold Richardson. "With all 32 NFL teams represented by GMs, coaches and scouts during game week, our players have the terrific opportunity to showcase their talents and get their first glimpse of life in the NFL ... `Just Like on Sunday.'"

While the teams are divided by East and West, the players come together for the beneficiary of the event, Shriners Hospitals for Children®, an international pediatric specialty health care system.
