Alanna Bitzel has been with The University of Texas at Austin since 2001. After receiving her B.A. in English, government, and psychology in 2005, Bitzel continued her graduate education at UT. In 2010, she earned her J.D. from the School of Law and her M.P.Aff. with a specialization in leadership and management from the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

Bitzel brings with her an extensive background and expertise in working with students on writing and managing writing programs. During her undergraduate and graduate careers at UT, Bitzel worked at UT's Undergraduate Writing Center (UWC), serving as a consultant, project group leader, assistant director, and outreach coordinator. While in this last role, she co-organized a collaborative effort between the UWC and the Texas Football academics center in which the UWC trains writing tutors for the football program to foster independent writing skills in student-athletes. Bitzel has also worked as an assistant instructor for UT's Department of Rhetoric and Writing. In addition, she has taught developmental reading classes for students of all ages.

Bitzel began working with the Football program in 2009 as a writing tutor and then as a reading specialist. She is now in her first year as an academic counselor. She supervises the Writing Lab, oversees tutor and mentor training and management, coordinates study hall, and develops programs to support student-athletes' reading and writing needs.
