Series vs. Temple
Saturday’s contest marks the fifth meeting between Texas and Temple. The Longhorns and Owls have split the previous four contests. In the first matchup between the two schools (Dec. 29, 1939), the Owls recorded a 47-37 win in Philadelphia. The Longhorns then tallied a 72-58 victory during a NIT First Round contest in Austin on March 10, 1978. The 1977-78 UT squad went on to capture the Postseason NIT Championship. Texas registered a 70-54 win at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Feb. 19, 1995. In the last meeting (March 16, 2001), Temple recorded a 79-65 victory in a NCAA First Round contest in New Orleans, La.
Nicholls State Game Notes
The 53-point margin of victory (93-40) marked the 10th-largest margin of victory by Texas in a home contest in school history. It marked the fifth-largest margin of victory by Texas in a game played at the Erwin Center and largest since a 62-point win (104-42) against UT-Pan American on Dec. 15, 2009.
Texas held Nicholls State to 27.5% FG shooting (14-of-51) during Tuesday’s win. The Horns improved to 7-0 this year when holding their opponent below 40% FG shooting.
Texas posted a 40-10 scoring margin in the second half. The 10 points tied the UT school record for fewest points allowed in a half (Texas held Baylor to 10 points in second half on Jan. 21, 1984).
The Horns limited Nicholls State to 3-of-26 (.115) FG shooting in the second half. The three field goals allowed tied the UT record for fewest FG allowed in a half (since 1965-66). The 11.5% FG shooting marked the second-lowest FG percentage allowed in a half by a Texas opponent (since 1965-66).
Texas recorded a +24 rebound margin (52-28), including a 24-9 edge on the offensive glass. UT registered a 30-8 advantage in second-chance points.
J’Covan Brown (23 points) topped the 20-point mark for the fifth time this year and 13th time in his career (79 games). He reached double figures in scoring for the ninth time this season and 42nd time in his career.
Jaylen Bond recorded his first collegiate double-double. Bond set career highs in points (18), field goals made (9-of-12), rebounds (12), assists (two) and minutes (24).
Sterling Gibbs set career highs in points (14), field goals made (5-of-5) and three-point field goals made (3-of-3).
Sheldon McClellan (12 points) reached double figures in scoring for the seventh time this year.
Clint Chapman set career highs in rebounds (10) and blocked shots (five).
Myck Kabongo (eight assists, one turnover) recorded at least seven assists for the seventh time this year.
Julien Lewis set a career high in rebounds (five).
Horns at Home
Texas is in its 35th year of play in the Frank Erwin Center. The Longhorns have registered an all-time record of 414-95 (.813) in the building. Since Rick Barnes arrived in Austin, UT has recorded a 189-24 (.887) mark at the Erwin Center, including an 88-16 (.846) record in Big 12 Conference home games. Texas is 99-9 (.917) at the Erwin Center in the last seven seasons (dating to the start of the 2005-06 season).

Texas has been a more efficient team at the offensive end of the court over the last three games. During this stretch, the Horns are averaging 86.3 points per contest while converting at a 50.0% clip from the floor (91-of-182).

Better Defense of Late
After struggling on the defensive end during their two games in New Jersey, the Horns have been a better defensive unit in each of their last six contests. Texas has held its last six opponents to an average of 51.7 points per game on a combined 31.4% FG shooting (108-of-344), including a 28.7% mark from three-point range (33-of-115).
First-Half “D” Against Texas State
UT held Texas State to 3-of-22 (.136) FG shooting in the first half (Dec. 10). The three FG made tied a UT record for fewest field goals allowed in a half.
The Horns held Texas State without a made field goal for a span of 14:20 (16:34 to 2:14) in the first half.
Second-Half “D” Against Nicholls State
UT limited Nicholls State to 10 points on 3-of-26 (.115) FG shooting in the second half (Dec. 13). The three FG made tied a UT record for fewest field goals allowed in a half. It is the fifth time (since 1965-66 when records in a half begin) that UT has allowed just three field goals made in a half.

The 11.5% FG percentage allowed in the second half marks the second-lowest FG percentage mark in a half by a UT opponent (since 1965-66). The record is 9.1% (3-of-33) by Arkansas-Monticello on Nov. 18, 2007.

What Can Brown Do For You?
Junior guard J’Covan Brown has played in 79 career games (19 starts). A Preseason All-Big 12 Team selection, Brown is averaging a team-best 18.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while adding 45 assists (4.5 apg) against just 16 turnovers through the first 10 contests. He has converted 45.6% (67-of-147) of his field goal attempts, including a 23-of-62 (.371) mark from three-point range. Brown has topped the 20-point mark five times this year and reached double figures in scoring in nine of the first 10 games.
Brown posted a game-high 22 points (9-of-15 FG, 4-of-8 threes) at UCLA (Dec. 3).
He recorded a game-high 23 points (9-of-19 FG) against Nicholls State (Dec. 13).
Kabongo Takes the Point
Myck Kabongo leads the team in assists (6.3 apg) and steals (16) and ranks third on the squad in scoring (10.1 ppg) this season. He has recorded at least seven assists in seven of the first 10 games this year.
Kabongo Settling In
In the last five contests, Myck Kabongo has averaged 11.8 points, 7.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game while hitting 18-of-31 (.581) field goals, including 5-of-11 (.455) threes, and 18-of-23 (.783) free throws. Kabongo has a 37-to-13 assist-to-turnover ratio during this stretch.
He posted 13 points (4-of-8 FG, 5-of-7 FT), seven assists against three turnovers and four rebounds in 29 minutes against UT-Arlington (Dec. 6).
Kabongo recorded 13 points (4-of-6 FG, 4-of-4 FT), seven assists against three turnovers and four rebounds in 26 minutes against Texas State (Dec. 10).

Bond’s Big Day
Jaylen Bond delivered his most complete effort of the season in Tuesday’s win against Nicholls State (Dec. 13). Bond posted his first collegiate double-double and set career highs in points (18), field goals made (9-of-12), rebounds (12), assists (two) and minutes (24). Eight of his 12 boards came on the offensive glass.
Gibbs Finds the Range
Sterling Gibbs had his best offensive performance in a Texas uniform during Tuesday’s victory against Nicholls State (Dec. 13). Gibbs set career highs in points (14), field goals made (5-of-5) and three-point field goals made (3-of-3) in 18 minutes.
