James tabbed Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week

Nov. 30, 2009

IRVING, Texas -- University of Texas senior guard/forward Damion James has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The award is chosen by a panel of media covering Big 12 men's basketball. This marked the second career Big 12 weekly honor for James, who previously earned the accolade during his sophomore season (Dec. 3, 2007).

James averaged 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while leading Texas to three victories last week. He posted 10 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks against Iowa (Nov. 23) in the semifinals of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic. James then followed with a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds against Pittsburgh (Nov. 24) in the championship game of the CBE Classic. He was named MVP of the CBE Classic, averaging 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game during the two wins in Kansas City. James added eight points and eight rebounds in Sunday's win at Rice (Nov. 29).

During the victory against Iowa, James became the third player in UT history to record at least 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. He also is just the sixth individual in Big 12 Conference history to reach the 1,000 career rebound plateau. James currently has 1,383 points (No. 16 in school history) and 1,019 rebounds (No. 3 in school history) in his career.

Through the first five games, James leads the team in scoring (15.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.2 rpg). He has converted 25-of-48 (.521) field goals, including a 7-of-15 (.467) mark from three-point range, and 20-of-28 (.714) field goals.

No. 2/2 Texas (5-0) returns to the court when it hosts USC on Thursday, Dec. 3 in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series. Tip is set for 8 p.m. Central, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
